Sprightly Marketing was built in Sonora, for Sonora. We help local businesses build a stronger web presence, earn trust in their community, and get found by the customers already searching for what they do — using the same principles that took a small pest control company from zero to the #1 spot in two California markets.

We're not a big-city agency parachuting in with a sales pitch. We live here, we raise our kids here, and we want to see the businesses around us thrive.

Built on Real Experience, Not Theory

Before Sprightly Marketing existed, there was Byrd Pest Control.

I started that company in 2013 with nothing but a truck and a willingness to outwork everyone else. For most of its life, it grew almost entirely on organic marketing — a strong web presence, a steady stream of trust and word-of-mouth, and consistent visibility online. Paid Ads played a role too, and it helped a lot when we layered it on top, but it was never the whole story. The foundation was always organic growth done right.

That approach worked. We ranked #1 in two markets — Patterson and Modesto — before I eventually sold the business.

Everything I do for clients today comes from having actually run a local service business, made the mistakes, fixed them, and figured out what actually moves the needle. I'm not guessing. I did this for my own business first.

From the Central Valley to the Sierra Foothills

For years before we ever considered living in Sonora, we'd come up just to get away. We'd hike and spend time exploring Highway 108, and fall a little more in love with these mountains every time we visited. It was always a place we visited — never a place we thought we'd call home.

That changed in 2021. We packed up from the Central Valley, sold the pest control business with its two locations between Modesto and Patterson, and moved our family up to Sonora for good.

Rooted in This Community

We didn't just move here — we planted roots.

• We live up in Upper Crystal Falls (my wife likes to call it Lower Twain Harte :-)
• I coach the Sonora High School cross country mountain bike team, out at Indigeny Reserve off of Lyons Bald Road
• All my kids ride bikes together, and mountain biking has become a real family passion, not just a hobby
• You've probably seen us riding in the downtown Sonora Christmas parade — I haven't missed one in the six years since we moved here

This is home now, and being part of this community matters more to me than almost anything else in how I run this business.

Helping Local Businesses Market themselves

After selling my pest control company, my focus shifted almost entirely to helping other pest control owners build their businesses the same way I built mine. For a long time, that meant clients scattered across the country — word of mouth carried my name well beyond Sonora, and most of my work had nothing to do with where I actually lived.

I want that to change.

Instead of spending my time serving clients spread out across the United States, I want to put that same energy into the businesses right here in Sonora. I want to know the owners by name, run into them at the parade, see their trucks around town, and watch their businesses grow because we're actually invested in the same community.
